ABOUT EL CANTO GENERAL

El Canto Gallery envisions a world where every artist can fully realize their creative potential. We’ve cultivated an active, inclusive community rooted in accessibility, artistic risk-taking, and cultural dialogue—challenging conventions and nurturing a richer, more diverse creative landscape.

Located on Abbot Kinney Boulevard in Venice, El Canto Gallery serves as both an exhibition space and a community hub dedicated to bridging the artistic communities of Los Angeles. The gallery provides a platform for Eastside artists to be showcased on the Westside, celebrating local talent across generations and disciplines. El Canto presents a dynamic range of work—from emerging creators to established professionals—while also cultivating relationships with international artistic partners who share a commitment to creative exchange and collaboration.

In addition to its Venice location, El Canto maintains an Eastside outpost in the iconic Bradbury Building and regularly celebrates Los Angeles’ vibrant musical culture through live performances and pop-up shows across the city.

With a focus on elevating artists’ careers, El Canto supports growth through solo and group exhibitions, strategic collaborations, art fairs, and connections to private collectors. Together, these efforts create a cross-city network of creativity and exchange that reflects the diverse and ever-evolving spirit of Los Angeles.

Endless Duardo
A Tribute to LA’s Master Printer

November 8 – December 20, 2025

Eleven years after the passing of legendary Master Printer Richard S. Duardo, Endless Duardo reexamines the life and influence of the artist who helped shape Los Angeles’ visual identity.

Presented by El Canto Art Gallery, the exhibition celebrates Duardo’s collaborations, inspirations, and iconic fine-art prints—featuring connections to Banksy, Keith Haring, Shepard Fairey (OBEY), Chaz Bojórquez, Carlos Almaraz, Mear One, and many others who created pivotal works through Duardo’s renowned studios: Modern Multiples, OM Labs, Pop N Fresh, Hecho en Aztlan, Art & Commerce, CIRCA, and Future Perfect.

Curated by Richard Montoya (Almaraz) with installations and commerce by Montana Mills for the Richard Duardo Family Trust, Endless Duardo in a Venice Bungalow brings the master printer’s humor, rebellion, and LA-born genius back to the Westside—where it all began.

Chiaroscuro

Tory DiPietro’s Neon Works Illuminate Light as Resistance

September 5 – October 23, 2025

This fall, El Canto Gallery is proud to present Chiaroscuro, a solo exhibition by Venice-based artist Tory DiPietro, whose work reclaims neon as a powerful medium for storytelling, healing, and protest.

Rooted in the classical idea of chiaroscuro—the interplay between light and dark—DiPietro's luminous works embrace contrast as both subject and strategy. In this collection, light is not decorative. It is active. It signals, disrupts, comforts, and confronts. Through glowing phrases, salvaged materials, and layered meaning, each piece speaks to the artist’s core belief: that illumination is a form of resistance.

“I’m drawn to the idea that resistance doesn’t always roar—it can glow,” DiPietro says. “It can flicker in grief or blaze in joy. Neon, in its fragility and power, reflects our shared experience: breakable, repairable, and radiant when lit with purpose.”

Chiaroscuro invites viewers into immersive spaces where shadows are acknowledged and transfigured—where light, both literal and symbolic, offers clarity in the midst of uncertainty.

Coqueteando con el Aire

Flirting with the Air

February 22 - March 22 2025

El Canto Gallery proudly announces its inaugural exhibition, Flirting with the Air, a captivating exploration of the ephemeral and evocative.

This two-person show features Los Angeles-based artists Carolyn Castaño and Martin Durazo, whose works merge the tangible and intangible to create a sensory-rich dialogue about the fleeting nature of human connection and existence.

The title, Flirting with the Air /Coqueteando con el Aire, reflects a playful yet poignant state of being—dancing through life’s joys and tragedies, existing in moments of levity even amidst darker undertones. Through paintings, mixed media, and assemblages, Castaño and Durazo transform these themes into vivid, deeply personal works.
